I make an effective snail spray from 2 kitchen ingredients. Safe for plants, deadly for pests

Slugs, slugs, aphids, ants and caterpillars are the worst enemies of cultivated plants. They can damage or eat plants in a very short time. If we allow them to spread to most vegetables and flowers, we have a really small chance of winning. That’s why it’s best to use preventive measures and react before a critical situation occurs. Easy to say, right? It’s worse when snails have already settled in the garden for good. Neither whining nor giving good advice, which is too late to implement, will help at this point. Are you wondering if there’s anything else you can do? Yes, there is an effective spray , just combine the ingredients from the kitchen cupboard. You’re right, these are not random products.

You have to take precautions

It’s not difficult to spray for snails, but you have to pay attention to one important thing. Before we start pouring the solution and mixing it, be sure to put on disposable gloves. This pest substance can irritate the skin of your hands. It’s also easy to accidentally rub your eyes, so watch your mouth and nose. And it may seem like an exaggeration, but it’s better to have glasses then too. At all costs, we can’t allow even a little bit to get into our eyes, it can be very dangerous. But you know, it can be different, so if it does happen, you have to rinse them with plenty of water. If the discomfort persists, you should contact a doctor immediately.

How to make a pepper spray for snails and other pests?

You can make a spray for snails in a very simple way. To prepare it, you only need 2 ingredients, the key of which is hot pepper.Hot peppers, preferably chili peppers, have an insecticidal effect, thanks to the substance called capsaicin. It is not only responsible for the hot taste, but it will successfully repel slugs and aphids by irritating them upon direct contact. Prepare:

  • 1 heaped tablespoon of hot, ground paprika.
  • 1/2 l of water.
  • All you need to do is mix together 500 ml of water and a heaped tablespoon of ground hot paprika. Set the mixture aside for 36 hours. The resulting liquid should be poured through gauze or a strainer with very, very small holes. The idea is to retain the paprika powder. In addition, before using the spray, you need to dilute it, because hot pepper can ‘burn’ the plants. To obtain the optimal proportion, you need to dilute 20 ml of the solution with 1 liter of water. Only after this procedure do we pour it into the sprayer. We recommend adding a little more dishwashing liquid to it, you can do without it, but thanks to this the spray will not run off the plants, but will cover them and start working well.

How to apply the solution to plants?

It is best to do it in the evening, thanks to this we will not make it difficult for pollinating insects to access the plants, because they are most active in the morning. There is also no point in using the spray during rain, because it will run off immediately. Choose periods without rainfall. Spread the pepper mist abundantly, over the entire plant. Don’t worry, it won’t harm it, it will only repel invasive species. But like with everything, you can’t go from one extreme to another. If you overdo it with the quantity or use it too often, the crops may die. It can also be used on all plants. We use the spray for snails and other pests once a week – wearing protective glasses and gloves. Whenever possible, we only spray plants that have already finished their flowering period.First of all, let’s protect young plants, because they are the most susceptible to pest attacks.

Prevention in the fight against slugs

It is also important to make access to our vegetables, shrubs, trees and flowers difficult. Before we start planting seedlings in the ground, first plant plants around the beds that will effectively repel pests, and these can be:

  • sage.
  • nasturtium.
  • phlox.
  • lavender.
  • magnificent geranium.
  • daylily.
  • yarrow.
