Everything is going well, taking care of the seedlings paid off, because the bushes have bloomed beautifully. We are happy because it seems that the hardest part is behind us, we are already rubbing our hands with anticipation of the first harvest. This is particularly exciting, especially if we are just starting our tomato adventure. However, at this stage, a lot can still go wrong. These aromatic and essential vegetables are susceptible to various diseases , of fungal and pathogenic origin (they are attacked by various creatures). There is nothing more frustrating, so much work has gone to waste. Before we move on to using artificial sprays, it is always worth trying all available home methods first. They are natural and, if you follow the basic rules, they will not harm the plants.
Recipe for tomato yeast «soup»
How to make a natural tomato spray?
- We will need a large container, because we will make at least 10 liters of liquid.
- Fresh yeast should be covered with sugar. Set aside for 2 hours so that it starts working well. Before that, you can try to grind it with sugar or at least crumble it.
- Heat the water, we will need warm water, but not hot, because we will kill the yeast.
- To the yeast-sugar paste we add honey from a proven apiary (‘artificial’ will not work), we also pour in wood ash, which is a side effect of heating the fireplace. It contains phosphorus, which is especially needed for proper flowering and ripening of fruit. Mix everything thoroughly until the sugar dissolves.
- We can use the ready mixture when the tomatoes are not growing too abundantly and are dried out by the heat.
When to use yeast spray for plants?
The time and method of application are not without significance. Before we start the whole procedure, it is better to first learn the rules that will not harm the plants.
- First of all, we only use yeast spray when it is not raining.
- And after the rain, we have to wait until the leaves dry well.
- The best time is in the evening , when it is a bit cooler, thanks to which the yeast mixture will not burn the tomatoes. This way we will also avoid potentially chasing away insects that pollinate the plants.
- The process is best carried out using a hand sprayer.
- The yeast «soup» should be applied in a precise way that will allow the entire plant to be covered to the same extent.
- Note: if there are several days in a row without rainfall , you need to be careful not to apply too much fertilizer. Then it is best to reduce spraying to twice a week. Otherwise, the tomatoes may absorb the mixture too quickly, which in turn may cause them to wilt. It is also important to provide the tomatoes with intensive watering, especially on spraying days.
