The Mimosa salad is one of those dishes that were popular in Soviet times.
Only then it was prepared a little differently, says Yulia Arkhipova, an expert of the online publication BelNovosti.
We will tell you about the differences between today’s recipe and what it used to be.
Fish
Modern housewives prefer to prepare the Mimosa salad with canned fish (in oil or its own juice), although the original recipe uses boiled fish.
We don’t argue – canned food is convenient to use, but it tastes inferior to boiled fish.
Potatoes
The ‘primordial’ recipe for ‘Mimosa’ does not include potatoes. This ingredient appeared later – housewives began to add it to increase the nutritional value.
Carrots
In Soviet times, boiled carrots, grated on a grater, were one of the layers of the salad.
Modern housewives replace boiled carrots with Korean carrots, thereby making the dish much more piquant in taste.
Cheese
Cheese also cannot be found in the list of ingredients for the classic Mimosa salad, but modern housewives often add it to other products.
