Should eggplants and peppers be fed in September: a specialist’s opinion?

In most cases, gardeners believe that feeding vegetable crops that continue to bear fruit in September no longer makes sense.

But at this time, nightshades can still actively bear fruit – tomatoes, peppers and eggplants. And if the harvest is still ripening, then you can’t leave the plants without nutrition.

Our magazine’s expert Anastasia Kovrizhnykh – a scientist agronomist and landscape designer told us how to carry out feeding.

Firstly, feeding in early autumn is carried out at intervals of once every 7-12 days.

Secondly, at this time only phosphorus and potassium supplements are sufficient.

You can use mineral fertilizers, so it is better to exclude humus, green infusions and compost at this time.

How to feed nightshades

1. Good results are obtained with fertilizer prepared from 2 tablespoons of superphosphate and 1 tablespoon of potassium salt per 10 liters of water.

You can prepare solutions from monophosphate, strictly according to the instructions.

2. If there is a need to use organic matter, then an infusion of wood ash is suitable, which is used at intervals of 1 time per week.

Plants in open ground will have to be covered with spunbond or film, and greenhouses must not be forgotten to be ventilated.
